Schneider Electric has launched its intelligent Compact NSX range of moulded case circuit breakers (MCCBs), which delivers an exceptional performance from a small package, writes Simon Rowley. New features include various options for monitoring and communications, enhanced protective functions and, for the first time, local display of both energy consumption and power.
As well as its local display capability, the Compact NSX can display data remotely at a switchboard front panel using the functional display module or via a gateway to a plant monitoring system. It is compatible with Schneider’s PowerLogic monitoring software, which provides the parameter sets and tools needed to configure a comprehensive power distribution monitoring scheme.
Claimed to be ‘more than just a circuit breaker’, Compact NSX is also an aid to electrical installation management, including energy consumption, optimisation and maintaining supply availability.
The range also incorporates many new features that make it more flexible and suitable for an extended range of applications. For instance, the roto-active contact breaking principle provides better current limitation and endurance performance providing very high breaking capacities - in a very small space - with exceptional fault current limitation for extended system life.
Well suited to motor-starting and motor-running applications, the Compact NSX provides protection against short circuits, phase imbalance and loss, with additional protection functions for starting and breaking with the motor running, jogging and reversing.
Mounting the Compact NSX is the same as for the existing Compact NS, simplifying retrofit engineering. Design is aided by integration using intuitive software for parameter settings and economical switchboard installation.
