Protecting personnel from faulty compressed air hoses

Parker Hannifin has introduced a range of air fuses that protect operators of pneumatic equipment from the hazards associated with broken compressed-air hose. The Moduflex AirGuard system enables plant managers to comply easily and cost effectively with guidelines on the safe use of pneumatic equipment.

The Moduflex AirGuard system ensures the main air flow is immediately shut off if the volume of air exceeds a set ‘value’, this ‘value’ is factory preset to allow normal air consumption when using air tools. If the air consumption exceeds the set value for the AirGuard, for instance, in the event of the air line being severed, then the internal piston instantly shuts off the main flow. An integral bleed hole allows some air to flow though, enabling the line pressure to automatically reset the AirGuard once the line break is repaired.

The compact, lightweight devices have been designed to provide a simple yet effective safety mechanism for a wide range of pneumatic applications. The components can be fitted quickly and easily, with no adjustment necessary, to provide reliable, tamperproof protection. The Modulex AirGuard system is compatible with a wide range of hose, tube or pipe sizes from 1/4” to 2”, with a maximum inlet pressure of up to 35 bar. The components are high visibility yellow in compliance with Health & Safety standards, and stainless steel versions are available for use in sectors such as food and beverage, healthcare, and offshore.
