NMITE scholarship offered to female student in initiative to encourage more women to pursue engineering

Schaeffler UK Ltd becomes an NMITE Challenge Partner, providing a challenge module for NMITE learners, and will provide one NMITE female engineering student with a generous scholarship.

New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering (NMITE) and Schaeffler share many values including a keen interest in helping to support more women to pursue engineering and will work with NMITE on a number of initiatives. This partnership aligns with NMITE’s wider scholarship strategy to encourage women to start their journey with engineering, as part of the ‘She/Her = Future Engineer’ campaign.

Harriet Dearden, NMITE’s Head of Fundraising commented: “With women making up just 14.5% of all engineers, NMITE is committed to breaking down barriers for women entering the industry. A bold and ambitious scholarship programme is just one of the many ways we are doing this.”

During the three-year partnership, NMITE students will visit Schaeffler’s site to learn about the company and what employers, like Schaeffler, have to offer engineering students. Schaeffler staff will also be able to benefit from NMITE’s short course programme as part of continuing professional development.

President and Chief Executive Officer Elena Rodriguez-Falcon commented on the partnership: “We are delighted to partner with Schaeffler as we are both passionate about engineering and encouraging more women to join engineering – an industry that remains largely male dominated. We want to demonstrate that it is an exciting and varied industry with a wealth of applications. Together, we want to inspire the next generation of UK engineers.”

“Schaeffler is so pleased to be partnering with NMITE. Like NMITE we know that practical application is just as important as theoretical, so we look forward to working together to develop well-informed and well-qualified engineers of tomorrow,” said Laura McKenzie, UK Communications & Branding Manager, Schaeffler UK Ltd.
