Take the road to Net Zero and save energy with Wago’s new mid energy meters

With Net Zero targets on the horizon and increasing regulatory and cost pressures, companies are looking to optimise their energy consumption. To meet this demand, WAGO has expanded its energy measurement portfolio with the launch of a new range of fully MID (Measurement Instruments Directive) compliant energy meters.

Measuring energy use is the first step to making informed decisions about how to manage consumption more effectively and implement measures to reduce both energy costs and carbon footprints to help tackle the climate crisis.

Designed with time-saving connection capability and full format display, WAGO’s new generation of MID energy meters can be a valuable aid for enhanced energy consumption transparency for a range of applications and help users manage energy consumption on the road to Net Zero. They include helping building energy management to meet energy reduction targets, supporting emerging
charging infrastructures for EVs, tackling the energy consumption impact of production machinery, and aiding distributed property portfolios that require an individual billing system.

Space saving

The new range offers three options with direct measurement up to 65A parallel connection; direct measurement up to 65A inline connection both with 72mm to save cabinet space, and an ultra-compact 35mm version for measurement above 65A via current transformers for even greater space saving objectives.

Quick installation and Bluetooth connectivity

The meters can be quickly installed thanks to WAGO’s unique Push-In CAGE CLAMP technology which
allows speedy connection via a lever-actuated solution, whilst easy configuration is possible thanks to the large, backlit display and touch-sensitive controls. The MID energy meters can also be configured using an app that communicates with the device via Bluetooth, allowing the straightforward export of energy use reports as required. Thanks to use of CAGECLAMP terminals, that do not require regular screw tightness checking, considerable routine maintenance cost savings can be made.

The meters are equipped with both an M-Bus and a Modbus interface for transmitting measured values and two SO interfaces with
an adjustable pulse rate are available for both energy directions – consumption and generation.

Andy Turtle, Product Manager – Interface at WAGO, comments: “With Net Zero firmly on the agenda, energy use is in the spotlight as regulatory pressures such as L2A and sustainability targets increase awareness. It is vital that energy users across industrial and commercial settings can measure the energy they consume and then make informed choices about how to be more efficient. And energy consumption transparency is also an essential tool when it comes to supporting many markets,
including the EV charging infrastructure that is currently being built, and the property sector where individual billing per tenant for energy consumption is required.

“The new MID energy meter range addresses these needs and is quick and easy to install thanks to WAGO’s unique push-in cage clamp solution and the large, detailed display. Once installed and configured, users are then able to benefit from the comprehensive energy measurement information that can be accessed via Bluetooth app technology enabling better informed decisions to be taken that will help control and improve energy consumption levels, and help companies achieve their Net Zero ambitions.”
