Reduce range anxiety with Norgren’s thermal management solutions

Range anxiety is still considered to be one of the major reasons why people are reluctant to change to all battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

For many, the higher purchase price of BEVs is an acceptable price to pay to help create a greener environment, but thoughts of getting stranded in the middle of nowhere, without the convenience or availability of charging points, it’s simply too high a price. However, help is now on-hand.

Experts in fluid and motion control, Norgren’s Commercial Vehicle team have developed a number of thermal management solutions designed to extend the range and increase the battery life of BEVs. To achieve the maximum range of an electric powered vehicle, the temperature of the batteries needs to be kept between 22-26ºC. If the batteries are colder or hotter than this, the vehicle’s range is dramatically affected. To meet this challenge Norgren have a range of light weight motorised coolant valves that not only increase the vehicle’s range but also increases battery service life by up to 40%, plus the added bonus of reduced charging times.

Compatible with temperature ranges -40º-120ºC and all common coolant fluids, these valves are also lube free and are easy to maintain due to a separate motor eliminating the need to strip down or disconnect. With a CANbus option coming soon, these coolant valves are standard, off-the-shelf solutions, and come with an industry leading two-year warranty or one million cycles.
