In this episode, Oriental Motor (UK)’s Paul Jepson unpacks the supermarket sandwiches, ready-meals and pre-packed salads and shares we all enjoy and explains the balance of motors and drives that are required to make sure our convenience food is healthy, tasty and balanced.
Co-hosts Nicole Piesse-Turner and Caroline Hayes build up an appetite as Paul moves from supermarket sandwiches to complex motor systems which are used to weigh ingredients and prepare readymade meals and fresh salads in various environmental conditions but all to strict regulations.
Food automation can include multiple ingredients, cooking processes and presentation formats all of which require a complex mix of stepper motors, BLDC motors and servo motors. At each stage, Paul examines the type of motor used and why it is best suited to that role on the production line.
The podcast will appeal to more experienced engineers, who will be introduced to new application areas and real-life use cases as well as students and those taking their first steps in the motor and drive industry.
