IT cooling: Look beyond the norm for true innovation

For an outsider, the term “IT” conjures up images of cavernous futuristic facilities, myriads of twinkling LEDs, and technologies at the "bleeding edge" of the latest developments.

Don’t get me wrong, there are facilities like this; but if you look closer to home, most installations are operating on technology that has been in place for years, and this is not always effective.

From a climate control perspective, we’re talking CRAC units. Computer Room Air Conditioning Units (CRAC) are the mainstay of the ‘White Space’, supplying the cavity below the raised floor with cold air, which is then directed up to the equipment via perforated floor tiles in front of the racks.

For today’s IT professional, there are some possible downsides.
