Super Mario Bros was first launched on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in Japan on 13 September 1985.
In celebration of the iconic game's 35th anniversary, 3D printer manufacturers, BCN3D, decided to create a 3D-printed replica of Rainbow Road, the notoriously difficult race circuit in the series.
Two engineers from BCN3D participated in the project to design each of the brightly coloured pieces, of which there were more than 4,400.
Then, around 10 employees participated in the assembly of the circuit at BCN3D’s facilities in Barcelona, Spain.
The finished circuit measured an impressive total of 5 metres x 5.4 metres (16.4 feet x 17.7 feet).
Commenting on the achievement, David Martínez Reygaza, Media Relations Manager at BCN3D, said, "With this project, we wanted to pay tribute to the first Super Mario kart circuit that was built 35 years ago and show that, with our 3D printing technology, we can quickly replicate a typical racing slot circuit with very low production costs.
"We have used our new Epsilon W27 and Sigma D25 printers to print the various parts that fit together perfectly," he concluded.
