Belt tension measurement prevents premature bearing damage
A precision opto-electronic instrument that allows accurate measurement
of belt tension has been launched by INA FAG. The Top-Laser Trummy system
is fully portable and comprises a measuring probe and processor unit that
displays belt tension in terms of frequency (Hz) or load (Newtons).
Measurements are taken (when the drive is at standstill) by striking the
belt and setting it into vibration - belt mass and length being entered
beforehand. From these parameters, the instrument calculates the actual
belt tension.
