EMS Ltd supplies new integrated speed controller for small and precise applications

Electro Mechanical Systems Ltd has expanded its offering of FAULHABER BXT motors with the introduction of a diameter-compliant, integrated speed controller.

The attachment measures just 6.2mm in length, making it ideal for applications that require precise speeds and high torques in the smallest of spaces.

The BXT motor family, consisting of brushless DC-servomotors with an especially short design, has been expanded in all sizes with a diameter-compliant, integrated speed controller.

Fully integrated into the robust motor housing, the speed controller can be combined with FAULHABER’s full range of housed BXT motors. Exhibiting innovative winding technology and optimum design, the BXT series offers an unmatched ratio of torque to weight and size.

The new integrated speed controller enhances the precision and consistency of existing BXT motors. This is especially important for micromotor-powered handheld devices, such as surgical and dental tools, or tattoo machines, where users need to have complete control over their instruments.

With a quick and simple installation, the speed controller is based on existing FAULHABER technology and is compatible with its Motion Manager software. Fulfilling the need for powerful, yet highly controlled, speed in precision applications, the new speed controller offers a number of benefits. For example, the combination of BXT H motors with the integrated speed controller can produce high torque levels, of up to 92 millinewton metres (mNm), and a continuous output of up to 60 watts (W).

Torque is not the only demand for micro-motor-powered devices, and the speed controller also enhances equipment stability, delivering mechanical speed control from 200–10,000 min-1.

“The update to the BXT motor family range of motors builds upon the precision and efficiency of its predecessors,” explained Dave Walsha, Commercial Development Officer at EMS Ltd.

“A well-designed cooling concept minimises thermal losses. Therefore, even when fully integrated, the speed controller ensures the use of almost the entire power and speed range of the corresponding base motors.

“Typical applications for the integrated BXT H motors with speed controllers are pumps, hand-held devices and laboratory and industrial automation,” Walsha continued.

“With potential uses across a variety of industries, we are pleased to be able to offer this latest innovation in drive electronics as the sole supplier of FAULHABER products in the UK.”
