35mm brush dc motor introduced

Portescap, a Danaher Motion Company, has expanded its family of brush dc motors by introducing 35GLT motors. These RoHS-compliant motors have a 35mm housing and weigh just 360 grams, while delivering a 40% increase in torque-to-volume ratio when compared with standard iron core motors of similar frame size. The maximum continuous torque approaches 150 mNm in the 35GLT, a 25% improvement over similar conventional models. They are available with five winding types in the voltage range of 24V to 90V, and can be cost-effectively customised for use with a range of gearboxes and encoders.

“The 35GLT comes out of Portescap’s history of innovation and experience in designing multi-layer coil brush dc coreless motors, and is precision engineered to minimise speed variations at higher loads. As an example, the 48V coil has only 0.4% speed variation when the motor has a load fluctuation of 5 mNm at a continuous torque of 100 mNm. In medical, aerospace and electronics assembly markets, this unique design feature, for the 35GLT, improves actuation at higher torques,” said Udayan Senapati, brush dc product line manager at Portescap.

The higher continuous torque and output power, in a compact lighter weight frame, reduce operator fatigue, which is vital in applications such as power hand tools. 35GLT motors are also well suited for use in food processing, door automation, feed and assembly tool, seat automation, missile actuation and hospital bed applications, among other applications where high continuous torque is a requirement.

For highly demanding applications such as lab automation, in which heat management is a prerequisite, 35GLT motors not only have less ambient heat dissipation (measured by Joule loss) than comparable motors, but they can also be customised with a proprietary fiber wrap insulation to further minimise heat dissipation.
