Smart building sensors explained

The market for smart building solutions is growing fast. People want their home or office to respond to the changing environment – whether that
is by closing blinds when the sun is shining brightly, turning on lights when it gets dark or switching off heating and lighting when rooms
are not occupied. 

While these functions are essential for energy efficiency of buildings, we’re now seeing a new demand for control of indoor air
quality. Operators of grade A offices, hospitals and schools want to optimise the environment, leading to better decision-making and focus. 

This can be achieved by
adjusting the ventilation in reaction to levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the environment.
