DC drives upgrade will meet current and future expectations

Sprint Electric has upgraded its 3200i (2Q) and 3600XRi (4Q) ranges of DC drives with a number of small but important developments that will ensure their continuing longevity.

“DC drives remain popular throughout all their end user industries,” explains Gary Keen, of Sprint. “Although AC variable speed drives have been available for many years, DC still offer many advantages, with perhaps the most important being the ability to produce full torque at zero speed and throughout the speed range.”

Sprint has always offered a range of DIN rail mounted DC drives and also a range of open chassis PCB drives.

While these remain popular as open chassis drives, they are also now available with covers. The cover is designed so that overall height of the drive remains the same, so there is no increase any of the existing dimensions. It is screen printed to show the terminal and power layout.

Although this cover doesn’t improve the IP rating by much it gives additional protection for the components and the user. Manufactured using a PCB material it is robust and impact resistant. Black base colour with white screen printing makes terminal identification clear and easy.

Another advantage of adding the cover is that the customer is now also able to mount the Sprint Buffer card on top of the drive. Mounting on top of new cover this is a convenient and space saving way of adding either an analogue PID, external linear ramp, high accuracy differential or summing amplifiers adding to the drives capability.

“We are also taking the opportunity to change solder pad connections to terminals,” says Gary. “This will increase the drives’ flexibility, making it easier to install and/or redeploy to new duties.

“The 3200i and 3600XRi drives address an important segment of the drives market. We make sure we stay in contact with their users and are always happy to respond to their feedback on potential improvement, upgrades and modifications.”

The 3200i range of DC drives cover a current range from up to 8Amp to up to 48Amp, with Supply voltages from 110 to 440Volt with an option for 30/60Volt. This versatile two quadrant DC drive can be used for controlling both Speed and Current of most types of brushed DC motor.

The 3600XRi range of DC drives cover a current range from up to 4Amp to up to 36Amp, with Supply voltages from 110 to 440Volt with an option for 30/60Volt. This versatile four quadrant DC drive can be used for controlling both Speed and Current of most types of brushed DC motor.
