Former Business Secretary, Greg Clark MP, said that the increased adoption of digital technologies could generate “£455 billion over the next 10 years, boosting productivity, creating thousands of new highly skilled jobs and enabling more efficient, cleaner production systems”. There are clearly significant gains to be made by manufacturers who get it right.
With changes to technology come different skills requirements. Manufacturers cannot simply stick with the status quo and expect to reap the benefits.
The technological shift of Industry 4.0 is powered by huge amounts of data, which was not previously available or produced and the ability to effectively handle this information will dictate the benefits it will bring.
