Magnetic encoders combine precision and robustness

Baumer has introduced a range of magnetic encoders which provide resolutions which until recently were only possible by using optical encoders.

The company’s EAM 580/360 magnetic encoders are of an ingenious design which combines a magnet, magnetic sensor and a high-performance, energy-efficient microprocessor. The result is a performance ensuring high signal processing algorithms for conversion, filtering and interpolation of measured values. This ensures superior measuring results compared to other types of magnetic encoders with an angular precision of ± 0.15” however challenging the operating conditions.

As a result of their build quality and robustness, these encoders not only provide precision, they can also withstand shocks up to 600g and vibration up to 30g, hence their longevity and suitability to the most challenging motion control applications. Initial projects have resulted in positive customer feedback with end-users confirming significantly better measuring results (±0.15” across the entire operating spectrum compared to other magnetic encoders), particularly in demanding applications.

The extra-robust EAM R Series provides the highest levels of corrosion resistance (CX) particularly suited to mobile, automation applications (E1 compliant) offering functional safety up to PLd level.
