First up, Mark Newby, a marketing and PR advisor but once a DPA Sales Manager, talks about the radical shift of electric vehicles over the last 40 years, as well as
reflecting on his time spent attempting to break the World Electric Speed Record…

When I joined the sales team on DPA in August 1982 the Ford Capri 2.8i was one of the
few factory hot-rods one could buy, ‘social media’ meant sharing a newspaper in a pub and electric car owners were viewed by my circle as quaint oddballs that kept boffins busy in their
sheds at weekends. “Each to their own” we said, with barely disguised contempt. We’d stick to petrol for the roads and methanol (or later, kerosene) for our cars thank you. A battery
powered car – wasn’t that something you bought at the store for young children to play with for their birthday? Such was 1982 for me.
