Traditional Model-Making Skills Live On, Thanks To Modern Materials

When it sought material to make a scale model of a new motorcycle, the UK office of Krefeld based Trimtec Autotechnik took a closer look at RenShape from Huntsman Advanced Materials. Following consultations with Huntsman's UK distributor, Birmingham based John Burn, RenShape 5460 was chosen for its easy workability by hand and machine. Other plus points were good dimensional stability (certainly an advance on timber - the traditional material for such projects) and edge strength. The surface of RenShape 5460 is also easily sanded to a smooth finish for painting and the surface porosity enabled the model to be finished quickly while still retaining its design intent. In the end, the model was completed and ready for customer inspection in just two weeks.
