Boom! 3D printing is reaching new heights

Seeing as we have a special Aerospace supplement in the July issue of DPA, I thought I’d touch on a pretty cool topic – supersonic flight.

Ever heard of Boom Supersonic? Well, they’re a Colorado company building a range of supersonic passenger airplanes.

Boom is starting with a Mach 2.2 (1,451mph) supersonic airliner called Overture, with seats that cost the same as a lay-flat bed in business class. Imagine New York to London in less than 3.5 hours for only £3,521! I say ‘only’…

Overture will be the most community- and environmentally-friendly supersonic jet ever made. Thanks to advanced aerodynamics and engines, the carbon footprint will be like flying international business class today. Moreover, Overture is being designed to accommodate next-generation sustainable alternative fuels. At landing and take-off, Overture will be as quiet as the subsonic aircraft flying similar routes today.
