Taking the simple approach

Design cycles can become complex and unwieldy, which is why tools to streamline the process are always welcome.

Bearings are a fundamental part of machine design, so it is vital to ensure they are correctly evaluated and specified. Getting this wrong can be serious: just this year, investigators traced the cause of catastrophic engine failure on an Isle of Wight ferry to the main crankshaft bearing.

Of course, machines must be designed to a budget, and within an economic timeframe. To simplify this task, SKF has adapted in-house software, which it routinely uses to develop and design complex bearing arrangements, into a version that is far more user-friendly for customers.

SKF SimPro Quick is a simplified version of its more specialised bearing design programme SimPro Expert. It was developed in response to demands from SKF customers, who wanted to perform more advanced analysis of their bearing designs, but in an intuitive way, using tools that were not too complex.
