The question OEMs need to ask, however, is if they are working with suppliers who have the technical expertise, application and industry knowledge, and innovation to drive their business forward? Here, Rob Thomas, OEM Solution Sales Manager at ABB, lists the
five crucial questions OEMs should ask when choosing a supplier.

1. How can I make product testing more efficient?

Before any product is launched, it must go through rigorous testing from proof of concept to fit for purpose and safe to use.
Testing of motor-driven equipment typically requires a large inventory of variable speed drives (VSDs) to cater for all application types and motor sizes. Purchasing, running and maintaining such a large fleet for what may be an annual testing phase can prove costly, especially
if that phase happens infrequently throughout the year. Storing drives that are not in use also takes up a considerable amount of space.

ABB’s drive hire service allows OEMs to broaden their testing capabilities without tying up critical capital. The network of
ABB authorised value providers can deliver, install and commission a perfectly matched drive for any application anywhere in the UK and Ireland within hours. And when it is no longer required, they will simply take it away.
