Servo can be commisioned 'in minutes' thanks to powerful software

Festo has introduced a range of high performance servo motors and controllers that make use of the company’s FCT (Festo configuration tool) to expedite system configuration and commissioning. The new CMMP-AS controllers, in conjunction with the new EMMS-AS servo motors, set a new standard for ease and speed of set-up. Using the supplied FCT (Festo Configuration Tool) software, machine designers and builders can fully commission a complete high performance motion control drive axis – including controller, motor and actuator – within minutes.

Two models, with power output ratings of 0.5 kVA and 1.0 kVA, are designed for operation from single-phase 115 to 230 Vac supplies. And two larger models, rated at 3.0 kVA and 6.0 kVA, are intended for operation from three-phase 230 to 480 Vac supplies. The single-phase models feature active power factor correction, and all four models use high, tightly-regulated bus voltages to maximise efficiency and ensure consistent operational performance in the event of varying supply voltages, anywhere in the world. The single-phase models use a 360 Vdc bus voltage and the three-phase models use a 600 Vdc bus voltage, thereby maximising available motor current and torque.

The 0.5 kVA and 1.0 kVA controllers can deliver peak currents of 5 A and 10 A respectively for up to 5 seconds, while the 3.0 kVA and 6.0 kVA models can deliver up to 20 A and 40 A respectively, for up to 3 seconds. These very high peak current capabilities make CMMP-AS servo controllers particularly suitable for highly dynamic positioning applications involving extremely fast acceleration and deceleration.
