Herga Electronic has introduced a novel that allows
a rotary or pushbutton switch to be operated from the other side of a
wall or barrier (up to 100mm thick) without the need to drill holes. The
'Freemount' switch makes use of giant magneto-resistive properties and is
self-calibrating to accommodate substrate thickness. The actuator is the
passive side of the device, and is therefore suitable for installation in
hazardous areas or where EMC issues are critical.
