Peter’s adventure will take him across 100 kilometres of searing hot desert in just five days. The undulating route starts in Morocco and will see Peter and his fellow walkers climb dunes, pass oases, peaks and gorges and trek along river beds. Temperatures will be extreme, exceeding 30° in the day and dipping below freezing at night, when the group will be sleeping in basic camps.
It will be tricky to acclimatise to and prepare for the desert heat and terrain. Peter’s training has begun and, as well as walking on the flat every day, he is incorporating some hill walking around Dorset. With two knee operations to his name, walking is not something Peter usually chooses to do in his spare time, so this will prove an extra challenge for him.
These amazing efforts are all in the name of The Brain Tumour Charity. Of the £500M funding given to cancer research, only 2 percent goes towards brain cancer – and 30 adults and children are diagnosed every day. The Brain Tumour Charity allocates 80 percent of all funds raised to finding cures, research, raising awareness with GPs through early testing and therefore earlier detection of tumours, and support for tumour sufferers. Peter has pledged to raise £6,000 and Relec will match every pound he raises through his JustGiving page.
