Delcon solid state interface relays are being extensively used by AREVA T&D to provide reliable switching in their HVDC power network control equipment. Their dc link system allows the interconnection of two asynchronous ac networks at different operating frequencies. This is typically used to share power between different countries or regions and recent projects have been successfully completed in South America, India and the Middle East.
The equipment operates in an environment that is surrounded by high voltage power lines where signal cables are subject to extremely high levels of noise and interference. The relays are required to provide an interface between the control system and the field signal connections and AREVA needed a system that could operate reliably under these harsh conditions.
Delcon relays were selected because their novel circuit design with pulse transformer technology and multi-layer interface suppression allowed them to pass all required test specifications. The relays are manufactured in Finland and have proved reliable in pulp and paper industry applications.
The relays are suitable for a wide variety of other industrial applications where noise immunity is important and are also suitable for switching both dc and highly inductive loads without the need for derating.
