V-guides come tops in abrasives processing duty
Abrasive belt manufacturer, Hermes Abrasives has replaced a ball rail
system, which was prone to frequent failure on a belt joining machine,
with V-guide type linear slides from Hepco's GV3 product range, and
achieved a very respectable 90% cut in replacement costs. Abrasive dust
particles produced during the process was getting into the ball rail
system lubricant to form a very effective grinding paste, causing
frequent mechanical failure. The V-guide, on the other hand, offers
extremely low friction operation even without lubricant, so this
dry-running capability was put to good use on the joining machine.
Moreover, the 'V' profile ensures that any grit particles falling on a
GV3 slide simply fall off the surfaces, so there is no troublesome
accumulation.
