Taking care of the customer – Goss Springs offer flexibility and diversity

The great British myth that there is nobody left manufacturing anything in the UK is firmly laid to rest with a look at what Goss Springs has to offer.

The family owned business run by father and son Nick and Dan Goss have been manufacturing high quality springs, wire forms and pressings for more than 65 years.  There are countless examples of component manufacturers having gone to the wall in recent years under severe competition from low cost manufacturing countries yet companies like Goss Springs continue to flourish by moving with the times and working hard at identifying and then delivering what the customer wants. Let’s look at some of the key elements of this success story.

The range

Goss can design and manufacture compression Springs, tension springs, torsion springs, conical springs, wire shapes, press parts and multislide components. Batch sizes will vary from very small quantities to high volume runs all of which is part of the flexible capability offered by Goss Springs.

Design facility

The extensive facilities based in Epping Forest consist of a Design and Engineering team with the capability to produce rapid prototypes and customised tooling for a particular design. The company encourages close co-operation with the customer in order to optimise design, life and cost of the product required. Advice will be given at an early stage on material properties, methods of manufacture, heat treatment and surface finish in order to produce a suitably robust component at an acceptable cost.

Materials

A wide range of materials is available including annealed and pre-hardened carbon steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous alloys, silver, nickel silver, gold, the latest generation of thermo-bimetals and high nickel alloy for corrosive and the most arduous of working environments.
