Alcoa Fastening Systems (AFS) has launched a new product into the UK market in conjunction with one of its key distributors. The company, who engineer high-quality, high-performance fastening systems serving a variety of applications predominantly in the truck, trailer, commercial vehicle body builder, auto and railcar markets, has released the SNEP DAH turret nut range through Harrison & Clough.
SNEP DAH are zinc passivated (Cr6 free), stainless steel, double-slotted nuts, used wherever there is a continual or intermittent vibration that may potentially lead to a fastener loosening. The self-locking function is created by an axial deformed slot. The metal above the slot is set to de-pitch the threads, so when the nut is tightened onto a bolt, the thread is gripped on the flank. When fully inserted, the elasticity of metal allows the slot to press upon the male thread and provide the locking effect. Reliable in varying temperatures from -50°C to +450°C, they can be re-used up to five times to maintain a consistent and vibration resistant locking performance, unaffected by the intrusion of oil, petrol or other liquids and vapours.
Also available in brass or aluminium, SNEP nuts are fully certified by Network Rail in the UK (PA05/03451, 19/12/07) and SNCF in France. Rail applications include electrical connection to tracks and wheels, electrical lines to connection boxes, fastening wheels to wagons, rails to cement sleepers and stretcher bars; as well as on off-shore platforms, mining conveyors, cranes, agricultural equipment and compressors.
