Polymer bearing has moulded-in seals and grease retainers
Glacier Industrial Bearings is offering multi-material injection moulded
polymer bearings with features such as moulded in sealing elements, bore
grooving and grease retention indentations. The technology enables an
optimum sliding layer material to be matched to the application with a
different backing material provided for strength and dimensional
stability. The sliding layer can thus be optimised for friction and wear
rather than strength and stiffness; it can also be thin, allowing the
economic use of exotic polymers such as PBI, PI and PAI.
The simple sealing elements are aimed at contamination exclusion and can
be moulded in a variety of materials such as thermoplastic elastomers,
Viton or liquid silicone rubber. Separate seals are therefore
unnecessary, thus reducing the overall size of the bearing.
