The latest addition to Leuze electronic's range of opto-sensors (also called photoelectric sensors by users) is very much at home on food and pharmaceutical processing lines, in applications where strict hygiene regulations are enforced, and where there is the need for intensive cleaning and disinfection cycles.
The new Series 55 sensor has been developed around a build programme with emphasis on ensuring that the glass-free optic cover and the operating elements are absolutely leak-proof and gap-free. Couple this with a high-grade stainless steel V4A (316L) sensor housing, an IP69K rating and suitability for application in elevated temperatures, and it opens a whole range of applications in 'clean environments'.
The new sensing devices are said to be ideal for the food processing, food filling, and pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries. They show their strength particularly in the wet areas of a production line where the wash-down design makes it possible to thoroughly clean the entire system with all common cleaning agents and processes. The non-diffusive and chemically resistant materials used in the optics and operational controls, and the gap-free construction of the sensors, prevent bacterial carry-overs. Moreover, the enclosed housing technology and expanded temperature range from -20°C to +70°C combine to ensure long-lasting functionality.
The new 55 Series of sensors is available in a host of formats, including throughbeam and retro-reflective models that are suitable for detection of clear film and glass or PET bottles, laser sensors for small parts, and scanners including models with background suppression with high scanning rates.
In announcing this wash-down series, Leuze electronic continues to expand its support for applications of detection and monitoring operations where strict hygiene regulations are enforced, and where the use of new cleaning procedures and cleaning agents place new requirements on the sensors. The introduction of
these 'waterproof' sensors follows closely on the heels of the launch of safety light curtains with IP68 rating that offer a wash-down capability.
