Representatives from Romax Technology Limited joined GM Daewoo Auto & Technology at the opening of its new powertrain plant in Changwon, Korea at the end of 2007. UK owned Romax Technology successfully designed a 5 speed manual transmission for GM Daewoo and was invited to the ceremony to mark the occasion.
Romax has enjoyed a very strong working relationship with GM Daewoo since 2003. Collaborative projects have ranged from improving end-of-line rejection, and torque upgrade to a new and complete transmission design for petrol and diesel powered passenger cars. Production of the gearboxes designed by Romax is scheduled to increase from 250,000 units per year in Korea to over 1 million units per year in new factories across the world including India, China and Europe. The Romax design is considered a very successful small size gearbox by GM Daewoo’s powertrain plant as it is quiet, easy to manufacture and reliable.
Mr. Moon Gon Kim, General Manager from the transmission department at GM Daewoo explained, “Romax has been a very important partner to GM Daewoo. We work with Romax not only because they have the most advanced technologies in the world but also for their willingness and ability to share and transfer those technologies, which enables our sustainable growth.”
Mr. Younsu Park, Global Sales Director from Romax Technology concluded, “We were extremely pleased to be invited to the opening ceremony of Changwon factory. Romax always strives to provide high quality service and build long-term relationships with global customers. The successful cooperation with GM Daewoo is a very good example of this.”
