Steinmeyer is a specialist manufacturer of positioning technology products based in Dresden, Germany. The Steinmeyer range will enable LG Motion, manufacturers of a wide range of motion control solutions, to extend the capability of the company, especially in the demanding areas of scientific and medical applications.

Multi Axis XYZ systems for scientific and medical applications

The demands of applications in the scientific sector are extremely high – accuracy of positioning
and repeatability are crucial. The XY table KT250-DC-EDLM has been designed for the movement and positioning of laboratory samples weighing up to 500g. The compact table in the form of an inverse pyramid measuring 250 x 220mm has a travelling distance of 100 x 100mm. Because of space limitations in the laboratory the table is designed for use in the vertical plane.

Two drive systems are deployed. The vertical axis with
ball screw and DC motor fitted with gearbox and encoder ensures axial rigidity and great stability whilst standing still. As this axis is only used for the vertical movement of the sample after scanning, high speed is not particularly important. This is different for the horizontal axis where an electrodynamic linear motor delivers speeds of up to 300m/s with rapid acceleration and braking, essential features for the scanning operation in laboratory application
where high speed scanning cuts down on lab time.

The high performance linear motor provides quiet and highly dynamic running characteristics giving optimised cycle times compared with a spindle motor drive.

Controller

Positioning programming is achieved simply by USB connection or CAN-Bus. The XY system is internet ready once an appropriate host has been installed. With the CAN interface status and programme Quick Access version information including historical data can be
managed through a network all through the integrated controller with its own database.

One table, many options

The KT250-DC-EDLM comes with many options from a simply stand-alone version with USB-SS to a pre-configured Quick Access version, or even an optimised version with a ball screw and stepper motor on the vertical axis.

Ideal for scientific applications

The Steinmeyer KT250-DC-EDLM is an innovative development of an XY positioning system ideally suited for scientific applications delivery precise positioning, high-speed scanning, reliability and system accuracy.
