Making the most of AS-i safety networks
Fortress Interlocks' AmGard AS-i range of heavy-duty machinery access
control products connect directly to 'AS-i Safety at Work' control
networks, which are suitable for use on safety Category 4 applications.
The fieldbus system is easy to install and maintain, eliminates
dual-circuit cabling costs and allows both process and safety sensors to
operate on the same network. Fortress' new AS-i products include solenoid
operated and standard gate switches, which can be specified with either
handle or tongue operation, both formats being suitable for sliding or
hinged opening gates. Solenoid control is particularly suited to
machinery with run-down cycles, while tongue operation is the preferred
form of protection for operators requiring quick and frequent access to
dangerous machines. The standard gate switches can be used to control
access to conveyors and packaging lines.
