Panel Building And The Modern Motorway

Gantry lighting controls along the entire length of Britain's latest motorway are housed in IP67 protected, high impact resistant polycarbonate enclosures, supplied by Fibox's subsidiary in the UK. There are 36 sign gantries housing a total of 221 lighting units on the new M6 Toll road, and Fibox EK series housings are used throughout to house a range of electrical lighting controls. The electrical subcontractor on this project, H Woodbine, used Fibox EK TH enclosures to house automatic cut-out devices and double-pole MCBs for every single light on each gantry, and EK UH enclosures to house the electronics and electrical components required to control each of the gantry's lighting functions. Project consultant, Atkins specified Fibox because it believed the enclosures would cope with the environment in which the M6 Toll road lighting operates. Reliability is obviously key, while high IP rating and durability are important factors, comments Atkins' Brian McCann. Another consideration was the ease with which the panel building contractor could populate the enclosures and integrates them into the entire lighting scheme. Ease of integration was aided by the large range of accessories and fittings that are supplied with the EK range, including covers, hinges, internal mounting options, glands and cable entry systems.
