A Best Practice Guide To Food Process Automation

Festo has published a guide to automating food processing and packaging applications, taking account of best practice for hygiene-sensitive environments. The handbook is aimed at machine builders and is distilled from the company’s extensive experience of working in this particular area. There is additional input from specialised manufacturers and suppliers, plus sections on standards, EU directives, good practice governing design for hygiene, and advice on materials and automation components appropriate for use in these environments. EU directives are often unclear and the official documentation rarely refers to practical examples. Festo’s guide uses application examples to explain concepts such as hazard analysis critical control point (HACPP), and pertinent legislation, including US FDA requirements and the 3-A standards applicable to specific dairy and ice-cream plant.
