Rockwell Automation adds to its Connected Enterprise offering

Rockwell Automation’s recent acquisition of Automation Control Products (ACP) means it can offer two new core products into its Connected Enterprise solution. 

The first is ThinManager; a software platform that safely and securely delivers content from existing hardware and software systems to any combination of device, user and location across the enterprise. 

Its wizard-based configuration allows administrators to easily set up advanced functionality for end-user devices such as PCs and mobile devices. It manages the server and terminal side of modern computer networks, offering full server failover and redundancy options to make sure downtime is reduced and Total Cost of Ownership is lowered. Security is enhanced and cost reduced as there is no hard drive and the USB disabled. 

As the ThinManager software platform can be installed into existing setups, it allows users to leverage the benefits of the platform without installing anything new. Install once, use many times. It can withstand harsh environments so has a longer life and a smaller footprint makes it easier to ship, mount and cool.

The second is Relevance; this adds location-based functionality to the ThinManager platform and allows content to be securely delivered based on a person’s role and/or the location of their device. 

This gives workers the option to have information automatically available on their mobile device as soon as they enter a specific location. For example, when an engineer walks up to a device on a plant floor, that device will automatically know who that person is and provide the relevant information that allows them to complete their job. Its Shadow feature allows users to share screen information with other devices based on proximity or login.

ThinManager Relevance is completely secure as all information is stored on secure central servers and no data is saved locally. It uses QR codes, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS to define locations and securely deliver applications to mobile devices.
