Pick-And-Place With Pneumatics

Festo has added a high-speed pick-and-place unit to its range of machine automation components. The HSP offers cycle times ranging from 0.6 to 1s and combines horizontal travel with two vertical strokes in a single unit. Believed by Festo to be the fastest link-guided pneumatic handling unit on the market, the HSP is capable of handling up to 100 parts, of 100g or less in weight, per minute, with a repetition accuracy of 0.02mm in the end position. Unlike most cam-actuated systems, only the centre part of the HSP's three-piece slotted guide plate is rigidly mounted to the aluminium base profile. The two side components can be moved individually, while strokes along the Y-axis can be selected independently of one another. Additional stroke adjustment along the Z-axis allows for independent height offset between pick-and-place positions. This feature allows height differences between the rotary indexing table and the transfer system to be quickly and easily compensated for.
