Belt-Driven Actuator Achieves Speeds Of 10M/S

Festo's new DGE-RF electromechanical linear actuator is capable of moving payloads almost silently, at speeds of up to 10m/s. The belt-driven unit is available in lengths of up to 5m as standard, or in extended lengths to special order. Three variants support payloads of 5, 30 or 60kg, with a repeatable positioning accuracy of +/-0.1mm. The virtually silent operation is attributed to a low-friction roller-guide bearing located inside the housing, which protects it against adverse environmental conditions. This, together with the provision of grease reserves, ensures that the actuator can operate for up to 10,000km before any routine maintenance is necessary. Interactive configuration software is available as a free download from the Festo web site to help users achieve the correct motor/actuator match for their application. The software calculates the optimum size and drive options for specific speed and loading characteristics. When the combination is decided, Festo is able to supply a range of accessories to suit a particular machine build, including couplings, flanges and sensors, as a single part number in fully- or semi-assembled form, as required.
