Flexible heat-shrink endcaps improve electrical insulation

Secure, reliable and cost-effective insulation of electrical wiring connections in electric motors is essential to the performance of many electrical products and appliances.

Heat Shrink and Non-Shrink Endcaps and sleeves manufactured from UL (Underwriters Laboratory-American Standard) listed film are typically used to provide the required mechanical, electrical protection and secondary insulation for vulnerable connections, such as those manufactured in the UK by LAMINA DIELECTRICS.

A recent innovation developed by Lamina is their MICRO-DOT Cap, (Patent Applied For) a new high shrink internal tube which features a non-shrink outer and offers important features and benefits. The manufacturing process for Micro-Dot means that the internal tube shrinks with heat to hold the cap in the correct position, whilst the outer remains soft and flexible. This ensures that the problems of sharp edges and limited flexibility associated with conventional tubes and end-caps and which have the potential to damage sensitive wiring and inhibit the manual fitting process, are considerably reduced.

Furthermore, an added advantage of the Micro-Dot closure is that as the weld is very small and carefully positioned, so the flexibility of the tube in the area of the closure is unaffected. The process also requires less premium shrinkable film and therefore reduces the material cost of Micro-Dot compared to conventional heat-shrink endcaps.

The insulation/electrical properties of Micro-Dot endcaps are; high dielectric strength, superior cut through resistance and resistance to cold flow under pressure. High retained mechanical strength and long life at elevated temperatures (up to 155ºC).
