Strain-gage communication by fieldbus

HBM’s AED system gives cost savings through the increased used of fieldbus technology in plant engineering and automation technology by enabling strain-gage transducers to be digitally connected to standard fieldbuses without any loss of information.

By using fieldbus technologies, no control cabinet is required on site while the system can assume PLC control tasks. The system is supplied with integrated, electrically isolated control inputs and outputs and can be used for both static and dynamic applications.

The fully computer-controlled AED system aids plant efficiency because fieldbus interfaces cover longer distances while the industry-standard housing is installed close to the application, providing a high degree of protection.

All common interfaces are supported including the latest generation of Profibus DP V1, CANopen, and DeviceNet, as well as RS 232, RS 422, and RS 485.

The AED system uses the voltage supply common in industrial applications of 18-30 V and includes different digital filters, sampling rate adaptation, works and user characteristics, and linearisation. Over 100 structured commands provide access to the strain-gage transducer or system. Specialised features include smart optimisation functions and control functions required for repetitive processes, such as in automatic scales. Service, development, start-up, and parameterisation software are also available.
