Inverter parameters easily set by smartphone

Setting up the new i500 inverters from Lenze, already highly flexible with keypad, USB and bus options, now has an even easier option of a smartphone app.

By plugging in a WLAN module, wireless access to all the drive parameters is achieved remotely, getting around problems of difficult access. The Android app can be downloaded free from the Google Playstore. It is a fully fledged alternative to the hardware keypad and even offers more benefits such as intuitive user-friendly operation from the smartphone display. Wireless diagnostics and parameter setting can also be done from a PC using the free Lenze Easy Starter software tool.

The WLAN module communicates wirelessly with the PC or Lenze smartphone app. Adjustments can be performed anywhere, for example if an inverter is inaccessibly installed or diagnosis is necessary on a moving machine part (e.g. a travelling drive), this can be performed from a safe distance during operation. With its easy-to-use app Lenze also offers a user-friendly parameterisation solution that is different: for instance, an entire i500 parameter set can be downloaded and emailed for error analysis to the machine designer or to Lenze after-sales service. The recipient conducts the diagnosis, the parameter set can be adjusted as required and returned by email to the local technician, who simply uploads the parameter set again to the i500.

Launched at the end of 2015, the i500 range of inverters now extends to 75kW with 110kW models on the way. The focus is on the essentials with options to add more functions if required. This has resulted in compact dimensions that can reduce panel sizes and an ease of operation that speeds commissioning. As well as a range of current field bus systems, Lenze also offers customers the option of communicating over EtherCAT, EtherNET/IP and PROFINET modules. The new WLAN module which suits the whole i500 range adds extra flexibility and saves time.
