Ten port PoE switch

Amplicon’s Security Automation Division has launched a ten port PoE (Power over Ethernet) switch designed for IP CCTV and access control applications. The PoE switch has eight x 10/100Mbps Power over Ethernet ports and two gigabit copper / fibre ports for uplink to a core switch or server. The gigabit ports can also be used to cascade several ANE-208Ps around a site, providing a distributed Ethernet network and PoE connectivity at key locations.

According to studies by IMS Research, the EMEA network camera growth rate is 46.9% between 2005 and 2010. Furthermore, Power over Ethernet - the ability to power networked devices over their data cable - will increasingly be used to reduce the installation costs of devices such as IP cameras, door access controllers and wireless access points. Additionally, in-vehicle CCTV and rapid deployment systems are key targets for PoE based security.

The unit is housed in a hardened metal enclosure with a wide -10ºC to +60°C operating temperature, making it extremely resilient. Shock and vibration approvals, a redundant power supply and DIN-rail or wall mounting brackets make the unit much more suitable for professional security installations than commodity PoE switches.

David Evans, product manager for the Security Automation Division at Amplicon, commented, “It is extremely gratifying to turn out a product that so precisely matches the needs of the market. Very few other switches on the market offer eight PoE ports in this form factor, and the cost versus features argument for this product is very strong indeed.”
