Goss Components Ltd the London based specialist manufacturer of small, high precision components and assemblies recently took delivery of a new Mitutoyo video measuring system.
Since Goss has taken delivery the Quick vision Elf has already greatly improved first off inspection waiting times with an increase in dimensional reading accuracy and repeatability.
Andrea Fitch Goss Components Quality Manager & TS16949 Initiative Leader explains.
“Some of our components have 60-odd dimensions on them. A wire spring might take up to 30 minutes to measure for a first off, for example, while for the more complex parts it may well take up to 4 hours. We now know that with the new Quick Vision we can reduce our first-off times by up to 75 per cent removing delays and improving production time by allowing more machine operators to undertake their own inspection”
The £30,000 Mitutoyo is the first of a number of new machines that Goss Components plan to purchase over the 2007/2008 period to tie in with their continuous investment program.
With increasing pressure from China Goss Components’ strategy has been to invest in the latest production technology to ensure that there is surplus capacity, to ensure that we can offer short lead times with high dimensional accuracy for small series production as well as high volume continuous production runs.
Goss’s philosophy is to have close involvement with their customers as early as possible in the initial design stages to ensure that the products are brought to the market in the shortest possible time and delivered at an economical cost.
