New IoT product group for total facility management

Powervar has developed two IoT products that now enable facilities managers to use next generation site monitoring to gain insight on their energy use.

In a move to serve the growing market for ‘Whole Facility management’ for restaurants, hotels and commercial and industrial premises, Powervar has developed Atlas FA and Latitude FMD software to provide a complete package solution. Not only does this package allow facilities managers to monitor their equipment and receive an early warning of any issues such as malfunctioning devices and energy inefficiencies, it also enables full integration with power conditioners and UPS systems.

Atlas FA is a next generation hardware platform that creates an easily commissionable, intuitive interface that brings an entire facility together within a single box. The Atlas FA has the capability to look at an entire facility - including all of the site equipment. Unlike other similar systems, it extends beyond HVAC, lighting and refrigeration - which can account for less than the 50 percent of the overall energy use, and can look at anything consuming electricity - fuel pumps, vendor supplied equipment (ice coolers, drink fountains) and more.

Latitude FMD delivers the real power of facility control by providing an effective software tool to instigate changes and for running analysis on the many divergent data sets. Latitude FMD has been conceived as an easy-to-use dashboard tailored to the effective understanding and management of numerous facilities both countrywide and even globally. Latitude FMD incorporates sophisticated analysis, graphing and mapping engines to create a seamless experience for effective management and reporting on an entire facility.

Together, this ‘all in one’ portfolio for complete control and monitoring of electrical equipment combines software and hardware to create a smart system for facilities management. For example, using a combination of Atlas FA and Latitude FMD, a faulty light bulb can trigger an alert to be sent directly to a service department, which will organise and dispatch a replacement. Alternatively, a catering facility – such as a hot dog café – could benefit from daily monitoring of costs and energy usage and comparison against sales in order to streamline business. Here, Powervar’s equipment will provide a report to notify management of any inefficiency to be investigated.

Furthermore, with modern facilities requiring more power than ever to run day-to-day operations, Atlas FA and Latitude FMD can help eliminate unnecessary runtime – such as HVAC equipment left running overnight. Powervar anticipates that potentially, restaurants, convenience stores and medical facilities could achieve immediate energy related savings of up to 20 percent, with additional annual savings of five to 15 percent.

Chris Walsh, Director of Marketing for Ametek powervar said “For us, holistic facility management systems seemed like a logical next step. After providing power conditioning solutions for over 30 years, it was a sensible move to develop our customers’ power management systems to help them save money and monitor their equipment in the most effective, straightforward way.”
