ABB plans to grow UK ‘smart home’ market share

ABB has unveiled an aggressive plan to increase its share of the smart home and intelligent building technology market in the UK. The company aims to capitalise on its smart technology product offering, and applications expertise, to establish a 20% share of the smart technology market by 2012. Two new initiatives will be launched into the UK market to help boost awareness of the technology and the many benefits that it can bring.

The first of these is the creation of an intelligent building team, which will provide customer service and sales support for ABB’s range of open platform KNX/EIB products. The second initiative will help promote the energy-saving potential of smart building controls by providing users of ABB i-bus KNX technology with advice on claiming Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA) grants.

* In a recently published study entitled ‘Automation Supplier Provided Services Worldwide Outlook’, industry analyst ARC Advisory Group ranked ABB in the leading market position in this rapidly growing market space. The study reports that the total worldwide market for these services was close to $14bn at the end of 2006, and will increase by more than $10bn over the next five years, to $24.9bn in 2011 (a compound annual growth rate of 12.3%).
