Aluminium-like composite for 3D's SLS systems
3D Systems has introduced DuraForm AF, a cast aluminium-like composite
plastic for use with all its selective laser sintering (SLS) systems.
Suitable for the production of functional prototypes, the new material
combines the appearance of aluminium, with the surface finish and fine
feature definition of nylon and the stiffness of an engineered composite.
Moreover, DuraForm AF maintains its properties when recycled, so part
quality can be maintained through multiple build cycles with minimum
waste. Some of 3D's beta partners report the material's ease of
machining, particularly the ability to drill and tap SLS parts for final
end use.
