Polymers Pass Tougher Glow-Wire Tests

Polymers pass tougher 'glow-wire' tests The revised IEC 60335-1 standard lays down tighter requirements for the 'glow-wire' test of plastic materials used in the construction of electrical components, particularly for domestic electrical equipment. The standard calls for higher temperatures and shorter permitted after-burn times. DuPont says many of its flame retardant grades now meet these new requirements, including its Crastin PBT, Rynite PET, and Zytel series nylons. In addition, its Zenite LCPs and some Zytel nylons meet demand for flame retardancy without halogen and red phosphorus content.
