Custom Rubber Mouldings For Pick-And-Place Nozzles

DP Seals has created a special carbon-enriched carboylated nitrile for the nozzles tips used in surface mount pick-and-place machines. These tips cushion components against damage during assembly. The custom blend was produced for DP's customer, Metro Technologies, and has demonstrated exceptional durability and abrasion resistance, while meeting the industry's all-important static electricity management requirements. Ranging in size from 3 to 7mm diameter, the tips are moulded to better than +/-5 micron accuracy and precision bonded to the nozzles. Original equipment nozzles are frequently replaced by cheaper second-source components. Metro's Optima range, which incorporates the DP moulding, is now claimed to outperform not only second-source equivalents, but also OEM nozzles. Following trials at a number of manufacturing sites in the USA and Far East, Optima nozzles achieved up to 14% pick-and-place performance improvements against OEM, and 41% against second-source nozzles.
